John E. Matty

John E. Matty Sr., 86, of Star Junction, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008. He was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Star Junction, the son of the late Andrew and Mary Kalman Matty. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Perryopolis and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the China and Burma Campaign. Mr. Matty was a member of American Legion Post 51 of Uniontown, Sokol Assembly No. 725 of Perryopolis and the Santa Barbara Club of Newell. John is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John E. Jr. and Doreen Matty, of Fayette City, Douglas Matty, of Perryopolis, and Brian and Mary Matty, of Monaca; grandchildren, John III, David, Frank, Christine, Greg, Brian Jr., Adam and Patrick; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Virginia Matty, of Star Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Patty) Chlebowski, of Scottdale, and Mrs. Fred (Connie) Tylka, of Belle Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Matty; three brothers, Andrew, Joseph and Steve Matty; and one sister, Mary Logoyda. Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 East Independence St., Perryopolis (724-736-4424), on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday, Jan. 14, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church with the Rev. John Sedlak as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Perryopolis. Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by VFW Gold Star Post 7023 and American Legion Post 752, Perryopolis. A wake service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
