'Coach' was my first "real" tennis teacher. He took me on as a pupil and would have me drill until I could hit a tennis ball can on the baseline from the opposite baseline. He insisted that how you looked hitting the ball was as important as how you hit and taught me the most beautiful ( and deadly) forehand. My parents(Edith & Tony Vandenweghe)were close friends with Nick when he was single and he took my brother and I fishing & brought us a live Red Bird from one of his trips 'back home'. The bird flew around our house singing, a memory I cherish today. His nickname for me was 'PUDGE"...enough said about that although it was an endearment and when I saw him at Mrs. McCabe's funeral I introduced myself as 'Pudge'. Nick never ever not once raised his voice to me or showed any disappointment in my performance on the court. He taught me to love the game for me and made me want to make him proud of me. I carry his 'non-tennis' lessons about life with me to this day. Thank you Coach and see you later alligator. Love, Anne Marie 'Pudge' (Vandenweghe)Boudreaux
