I never knew you, Mr McEnroe, but I watched you on T.V. during the late 70's/early 80's - The Glory Days of Tennis - cheering on your uber talented son, John Jr. I especially recall that 'legendary' Men's Singles Final match at Wimbledon, between your son and (my Idol) Bjorn Borg, in the summer of 1980, I can see you now, sitting with your wife and family members/friends in the Player's Box, watching John 'just' miss out on stealing Bjorn's Beloved Wimbledon Crown. It was one giant nerve jangling rollercoaster ride of a match - hence many many people 'still' talk about 'that match' almost 40 yrs later!!! You were also there, Sir, the following summer to see your greatly talented son lift the All England Club trophy for the very first time and become 'Wimbledon Men's Singles Champion'. I know you will have been 'so proud' of your son, as, naturally, you should have been.
Mr McEnroe, I don't know exactly 'why', but I was really saddened to hear of your passing. I am certain John Jr, and indeed, all of your family, will miss you a great deal. RIP Sir and God Bless you and your family.

My wife, Vernelle and I recently learned of the passing of Mr. McEnroe. He was a good friend and classmate of my late father, Joseph FitzPatrick at Fordham Law School where they carpooled on occasion and played handball to alleviate the stress of working and going to law school at night which is a tough task for anyone to do to say the least. I think the proudest day of my Dad's life was graduating from Fordham Law on Edwards Parade in May 1964 with his classmates including JP, Sr.. No one rooted and cheered more for JP Junior at Wimbledon and the US Open more than my late Dad, my late Mom Kathleen, myself as well as my brother Brian and sister Mary Kay. I still remember when Mark lifeguarded at Strathmore Vanderbilt in the late 1970's. Those were great days. Our deepest condolences to the McEnroe family! Chris, Vernelle & Anna FitzPatrick

John McEnroe Senior was a true gentleman. He genuinely loved his wife and three sons. I knew son John and had the pleasure of meeting his Dad on several occasions, including a few coffees at the All England Club.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with John at the Lotos Club. I think I carried a chair for Mrs. McEnroe across the room one night and John and I bonded over some good wine. I did not know He was John McEnroe , just John. What a great man. Laurie and I are sorry to hear of your loss.

To the McEnroe Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
