The morning I started 4th grade at Provost Elementary, I sat on my front steps and refused to move. I was scared to go to school that morning because it was the first time my teacher was going to be a man. Had I known what awaited me that year I would have been at the door or the school early. With only around 14 students in our class Mr McFadden gave us all individualized attention and imparted knowledge every moment we were with him. He is one of the reasons I became an elementary teacher and have worked with children all my life. He opened his classroom to me when I was student teaching at Paynter elementary school and I requested me to be his go to substitute teacher when I graduated. Your family has my deepest sympathies on your loss.

I was very saddened to hear of John's passing. I respected him as my vice principal at Whitehall Elementary School and I appreciated his helpful and detailed observations. I will never forget, with deep gratitude, the compassion he showed me on 9/11. Before I was even aware of the horrific tragedies, he came to watch my class so that I could call my family who, he knew, lived near the crash site of Flight 93.
We are reminded that our lives on earth are much too brief! We are not saying goodbye forever but goodbye for now. John's legacy and memory will live on in the many lives he touched. I am sending my condolences to the family with heartfelt sympathy. May God bring you strength and peace in this difficult time!

I am sorry to hear of John´s passing. John was a couple years older than me but knew John from Penn Hills High School, and I worked with John at Whitehall Elementary as part of the office staff. John was a great guy to work with and had a good sense of humor. Boy John and I would really get each other going with our antic´s. I am sure John will be missed by many.
