I was a great friend and neighbor with Nancy. We enjoyed much fun with each other as teenagers. I enjoyed the family and remember both Mr. and Mrs. Michels as their kindness was awesome. So very sorry to have read the news and hope family has been blessed with many wonderful memories.

John and Nancy, I remember many fun evenings with both of your parents, you both and your spouses, as well as all the grandkids. No great grandchildren back then, but so much joy and a few cocktails! They are some of many good memories in my life. My condolences to all of you. I know how difficult it is after just losing my mother last month and my father in February. My prayers are with you during this difficult time. I’m sorry I missed your mother’s passing.

I believe that every Sunday we would gather at the Michels household, Nancy would always give me her beautiful clothes that she grew out of, and John and Virginia were also the greatest host. god bless you John.

Dear Michels Family,
I had the great pleasure of working with John for the ten years prior to his retirement. He was very well liked by his co-workers and admired for his engineering skills. After his retirement we frequently gathered for lunch with several of his former staff. The conversation would often times turn to his favorite engineering achievement, the lift bridge connecting the cities of Houghton & Hancock. He had an unlimited amount of fascinating tales about the construction and then the maintenance of the bridge. We never tired of listening to his stories. You can be proud of all he accomplished and friends he acquired while employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation. He was an exceptional person and will be missed by many. God bless your family.

John was my first boss. He was wonderful, funny, supportive and generous. I will never forget him.

John...I am so sorry to see this. I never met your father. However, knowing you and what a great person you are is a direct reflection of him. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you, Jackie and your entire family.
All my love - Jamie
