John Mikita Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2025.
John "Sonny" Mikita, 54, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on March 5, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Born on April 22,1970, in Brownsville PA, he was the son of the late Mary and John Mikita.

John was a proud graduate of Brownsville High School's Class of 1989 and California University of Pennsylvania Class of 1998, where he earned his bachelor's degree. John went on to earn his auctioneering license and founded Mikita Auction Company. His passion for antiques was matched only by his laugh and smile with his gift of lighting up any room and bringing joy wherever he went.

John's dedication to his community began early. As a high schooler in Brownsville, he served as a junior volunteer firefighter and later contributed to his community as a member of the Brownsville School Board.

He is lovingly remembered by his son Dakota (Raaga), love of his life Missy, and sisters; Elsie, Joann, Joni "Blondie", and Julie (Gary). His nephews; Brandon, Brent, Gary (Cora), Randy (Tristan), and Michael (Sydney); great-nieces Eve, Grace and Roslyn; great-nephews Braxton, Bryce, Decker, and Tate. John's love for his family remained central throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Mikita, sisters Isabel and Mary Mikita, brother-in-law Randy Rhoads, and great-nephew Asher Rhoads.

John's vibrant spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dakota, Missy and family,

I just learned of Sonny's passing. We had just started doing some work together again. Dakota, what a spectacular man you were given for a Dad. Not a day went by that you weren't mentioned. With pride in his eye and heart. Missy, it is clear from his voice, you are his person. And he was one of the dearest friends I've had the extreme pleasure of knowing. There will never be but a smile on my face at his mention. And he'd tell me I've met my wine limit. Do not hesitate to reach out. My support is yours.

Dearest Missy,
Talking to you on the phone meant a lot to me. Sonny and I were friends for so long, and he was eager for me to meet you, the love of his life. Schedules were always busy, and I regret this. Finally getting to meet you soon will lesson some of the pain from losing a good friend. And to Dear Sonny, I'll never forget your deep laugh and our chats. Rest peacefully, my friend. I miss you much,
