Dear Carolyn and family,
Since hearing the sad news of the passing away of our much loved and respected Prof JMS, we have been reflecting on the many uplifting moments with him. We were priviledged to have you and him at our place on several ocassions and us the honour of being at your place many times. Samir fondly remember many travels with him including a trip to China in 1992, two trips to India, trip to Mongolia and walking together on the streets of Ulan Bator, countless trips to HK, Malaysia and Singapore. It has been most painful to bring the sad news to many admirers of Prof JMS including Roger Lee, Prof Okachi, Ms Monique Lin, Prof TK & Raj Ghose and Prof Volery. Maya, I and the boys send our heartfelt condolences.

I was very saddened to hear that John passed away. The great moments we had at Curtin - in Perth, in Singapore, in China - and his visiting professorship at EM Lyon will be remembered. We lost a dear friend and respected scholar. Prof. Thierry Volery, University of St. Gallen, Swizterland
