John Moats Obituary

John E. Moats, 80, Overland Park, Kan., passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, followed by a service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Maquon, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to F.F.A., or Truth on Tape, PO Box 10514, Kansas City, MO 64188. Mr. Moats was born in Maquon, Ill. He was a Sponsor for Dale Carnegie Training. He served in the U.S. Army, a member of Beth Haven Church, Good Sam's Club, and worked with FFA leadership. John was the "unofficial team "Grandpa" for the Shawnee Mission South Raiders Girls Basket-ball Team from 1996-1999 and also Pittsburg State Girls Basketball for 2000-2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma. Survivors include his son, Gregory and his wife Charlotte Moats of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandchildren, Travis Moats and Loralee Collum; one great- grandson, Colton Collum. He was a faithful fan of his two grandchildren. He was a loving and caring husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Loralee, Greg, Travis and Family -
I was very sadden to hear of the passing of "Grandpa Moats" from Kelly today. I always enjoyed talking to him and he loved all of Loralee's friends...he was like another grandpa to all the girls. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
