John Edward "Jack" Monahan, age 76, passed away after a long illness on August 8, 2024. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by his family.
He was Born on July 17, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts, Jack dedicated much of his life to his career as a plant maintenance supervisor at Northeastern University, where he worked for 30 years. A long-standing member of Local 537 Pipefitters Union, his commitment to his work was paralleled by his devotion to his family and his passions.

His love for golf was unmatched, he was a member of weekly leagues at Southers Marsh in Plymouth for several years. He also loved spending time golfing and relaxing at the family vacation home in Quechee, VT. He was an avid reader which filled his leisure time as well as huge fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Marshfield Rams football. Most of all he cherished moments spent with his numerous grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

He is survived by his brother Thomas Monahan and his wife Terry of Rockland, MA , his sister Kathleen McVeigh of Quincy, MA. Jack's legacy continues through his children: Kathleen Bither and husband Eric of Quincy, MA; John Monahan of Weymouth, MA; Pamela Monahan and husband George of Marshfield, MA; Dawn Hernandez and husband Manuel of Hampton, GA; Michael Monahan and wife Heather of Methuen, MA; Daniel Monahan and fiancé Lisa Cohen of Hanover, MA; and step-daughter Cathlynn Cattaneo of Marion, MA. He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Jack also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many longtime friends including Kevin Farrell, Russell Anderson, Bill McGrail and Kathleen Monahan.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Cathleen Monahan; his parents, Mary J. and Thomas G. Monahan; and his siblings, Patricia Monahan, Mary Catherine Monahan, Edward Flynn, Lois A. Flynn and brother in law Kevin McVeigh.

Services to honor Jack's life will be held at MacDonald's Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA, on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, August 19, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Ann by the Sea Church, 587 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA. Following the service, Jack will be laid to rest at Couch Memorial Cemetery in Marshfield.
A luncheon will take place at Haddad's Restaurant, 293 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA.

Hey Dad
Tomorrow is your wake and I am filled with so many emotions. I wish we had more time but I am also relieved that you are no longer suffering. I am going to miss you but I am grateful for the time we had. Our relationship had it's challenges but know that I have always loved you and always will. You fought a good fight.
