John, I just came across a slip of paper with your phone number scribbled on it while cleaning out my wallet. Seems miraculous that I kept it, and that it was on the anniversary of your death that I found it. I knew you in school, and only talked with you that one time as an adult, after connecting for a couple of years on Facebook. But I still think of you all the time and miss your presence and your unique voice. You made an impact that is indelibly imprinted on this world. I hope I get to see you in the next.

I am extremely saddened to learn of John's passing. I had known John since elementary school. While I have not lived in Ohio for a great number of years, we always stayed in touch. I enjoyed talking to John. He was very opinionated and we had stimulating discussions. While we differed on topics, he articulated his position well. My condolences to his cherished ones.
Rest in peace.

TO THE FAMILY:
WE ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE HOMEGOING OF JOHN. HE WAS A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND TO OUR FAMILY WHO TREATED US LIKE A BROTHER. HE ALWAYS HAD A WAY OF ENCOURAGING OTHERS WITH HIS BRIGHT SMILE. THE MEMORIES HE LEFT BOTH WE AND YOU WILL KEEP HIM ALIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER. REMEMBER HE IS JUST TAKING HIS RIGHTFUL REST WITH THE KING OF KINGS AND WHEN JESUS SHALL RETURN, HE WILL WAKE HIM FROM THAT REST CLOTHING HIM WITH HIS NEW AND GLORIOUS BODY. JESUS TOLD US THIS " LET NOT YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED: YE BELIEVE IN GOD, BELIEVE ALSO IN ME. IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS; IF IT WERE NOT SO I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU. AND, IF I GO AND PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU, I WILL COME AGAIN, AND RECEIVE YOU UNTO MYSELF: THAT WHERE I AM, THERE YE MAY BE ALSO,"
JOHN 14: 1-3.
WE PRAY THAT THESE WORDS OF TRUTH WILL COMFORT YOU AND MAY GOD SHOWER YOU WITH HIS PEACE AND HIS STRENGTH NOT ONLY TODAY BUT IN THE DAYS TO COME AS WELL.

Family of John Morton
My sincere condolences at the loss of John. I went to school with John and was deeply saddened when I learned of his passing.
John had been trying to get me to go to lunch with him for quite a while, and I kept putting it off, now; I wish I would have went. I really didn't know him that well the most he and I would say was Hi. He actually graduated with my sister in 1974.
I will pray for you at this time when you need it most. Remember, this is a time when family needs to come together, not separate. God Bless You

John,
I always felt that you and I "got" each other and appreciated what we each brought to the table. You and I were brothers, and like all good brothers, we played together, we got in trouble together; we fought at times, but we always made great music.
For anyone reading...I loved the cat. I cried when I heard. And I slugged down a shot and thought of only the joy he brought with his God gifted voice.

Oh John how will miss you. Standing by you on stage for many years and watching you work your magic! Missing your calls to check in on me when I endured taking care of four family members who have now all passed away. I could count on that call for support. That my friend speaks volumes of your character. I love you for that. Now your talent was amazing! I still hear you singing one of my favorites which was Morning by Jarreau. That line says touch Touch the Hand of God. Yes you are touching the hand. May you R.I.H.

John, how I always enjoyed our conversations when you would call Duncan before he'd be awake on a Sunday. All the years of having you in our lives - like family! The kindness you showed my in-laws and our boys. The true friend, through good times and bad - your loyalty to Duncan - how we will miss you. We love you, John Morton - I can still hear you singing "Mornin'" - and I always will.
Hanson - you have family in Canton - and there will always be a place in our hearts and at our table for you.
To the entire Morton Family - our sincerest condolences and truest message of love.

To The John Morton Family
Debra I'm so sorry to hear of loss of John, your Loved One.
God Saw You Getting Tired
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered Come With Me.
With tearful eyes I watched you, slowly fade away,
Although I loved you dearly, I would not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.
God broke my heart to prove to me,
He only takes the best.

John and I were classmates from Junior High through High School. We weren't close friends as kids, but we were aware of each other, as we were of all of our peers in that big, confusing social and academic melting pot. It was so exciting to find him on Facebook all these years later, and be able to connect the dots from way back when, then move forward from that firm foundation to a much closer intellectual and emotional relationship, even though we now live far apart. He was a lively and stimulating presence online. And we even progressed to a phone call or two over time, to share our opinions at length, with the added nuance of words and laughter. Such a privilege to know him. So much sorrow in his loss. To his family I offer my deepest condolences. He will be seriously missed by many. For a very, very long time.

I will miss his contagious smile and quick witted humor. He was a world class scholar on many subjects and very opinionated. I will miss hearing his mighty voice singing beside me. Praying for your strength Sterlon. Will always remember John's smile, his way of making everyone comfortable no matter how much time had passed. Men like him are few and his passing leaves a tremendous void. Seeing him always brought fond memories of the east side; 7th Ave. fun and games. He will be an awesome addition to the heavenly music ministry.

Awe and shock!. I have an Awesome God. Awed because I just don't understand His power to inspire reverence or fear. But, still knowing in My heart, He never make mistakes. Shocked, because My little Brothers Soul was required so soon, following a knee injury. Sad for losing one of My favorite 'Songbirds' and 'Communicators in-Chief', But Joyful, knowing that somewhere God has blessed a newborn with the Spirit that accompanied Brother Morton through this existence. Family, I extend My most Heartfelt condolence and will forever share Your loss. Be strong in Love.
