Fly Grandad John fly,
thank you for being you and allowing me the freedom to be true to myself. You made me feel happy, proud and worthy of how and who i grew up to be. You never wanted or expected anything from me, always showing respect... such interest, consideration, love and thought. Always with a gentle kindness so calming, a non resistant soul at peace, with added electric energy and excitment, eyes containing the sparkle like a constant chinese new year firecracker...haha. Will continue our love of pizza.

A truly great man and a pleasure to work with

Much loved friend from student days in 1956. Spectacularly good lecturer. And creative thinker. He set my academic career in train, recommending me for a tutorship in 1960 at a time when women in academia were very thin on the ground.

Our teacher, mentor and friend, he revealed the joys of scholarship, and the ideal of the principled life. He and Jean were loved and admired. Mark and Katy Richmond

Many years ago I attended a series of lectures by John Mulvaney on his work in England - pre-historic stone graves - and was absolutely fascinated. I was also fortunate to hear him speak about his work in Australia re the Australian Aboriginals. He has contributed in a most meaningful way to the knowledge of the first people of this land and will be missed by many.

We are proud to have met and known such a caring man and grandfather of our daughter Cassie.

John Mulvaney rewrote the deep history of Australia, inventing the term 'prehistory' and opening the window that now reveals Aboriginal Australia to be the oldest continuous culture in the world. He was also a lovely man who lived a life of service to his family, his friends, his colleagues, to Australia and to scholarship. He was an Australian treasure.
