JOHN MULVIHILL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2023.
John Mulvihill of Chandler, AZ, entered the arms of the Lord peacefully and surrounded by love on the morning of December 9, 2023, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma multiforme.

John was born October 6, 1972, in Livingston, NJ to Marian and John F. Mulvihill. He grew up in Bloomfield, NJ, attended Seton Hall Preparatory High School, and received an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and his MBA.

John was married to the love of his life, Taragh (Maples) Mulvihill, and an incredible father to two amazing children J.T. (John Tomas) and Claddagh. His family was the source of so much pride. He would marvel at what inspiring individuals his children were becoming and spoke about how they embodied the best of his characteristics.

John's work family spanned across different industries beginning in New Jersey with window washing, to working as an archivist at CNBC television, to being employed by the Maricopa County Assessor's Office in Arizona. John was known at work for his quick wit and willingness to help others.

John's life was defined by so much more than his battle with glioblastoma. He was known for his passion for sports. There was not a sport or a game he wouldn't talk about or watch although he preferred to cheer for the Yankees, Jets, and Seton Hall Pirates basketball. He took up an interest in hiking and golf, especially after moving to Arizona twenty years ago, and treasured his rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hiking adventures. John looked forward to his trips to Vegas, especially his annual March Madness trip with Taragh, Kentucky Derby weekend, and his guy's trips known for dining adventures, random sports bets and late-night craps tables. He loved to grill and use the smoker and enjoyed testing new recipes and entertaining others with his delicious creations. John loved to travel and found himself drawn equally to road trips to ski or hike as well as more unusual international adventures often prompted by Taragh. John found joy in most anything he did- especially if he was surrounded by family, good friends, fun conversations, and laughter.

John is survived by his wife, Taragh; his son, J.T.; his daughter, Claddagh; his mother Marian (Keegan) Mulvihill; his sisters Kathy McGlynn and Eileen Mulvihill; as well as his nieces and nephews Kelly, Shane (Julie), Erin, Mark, Cillian, Nora, and Nessa- all who he loved and adored. He is also survived by many close friends from all phases of life. John was preceded in death by his father John F. Mulvihill.

Taragh, J.T., & Claddagh ask that you all join us in celebrating John's beautiful spirit and life the way he requested. To ensure John's giant smile shines upon us- please wear your favorite sports team gear (college or pro) and join us to memorialize a man who brought so much kindness, joy, and laughter into our lives. John's request was that we celebrated a life well lived not mourned a life lost too soon. All are welcome.

Saturday January 20th, 1PM: Celebration of Life Service at the Praise and Worship Center- 2551 N Arizona Avenue Chandler, AZ 85225 (wear your sports teams)

Immediately followed by a backyard gathering for sharing of memories and laughs with his family at our home- 1431 N Benson Ct. Chandler, AZ 85224 (PLEASE bring your stories and a hungry belly)

John was in my IAAO classes with me twenty years ago for the Maricopa County Assessor's Office. I was in awe of John's mathematical abilities to be able to study both for the required coursework we had in our Appraiser positions and for his studying for his MBA at the same time. John was a wonderful person who helped me in some of the classes to understand the mathematical formulas and how to prepare better for the final exams for each course. Blessings to his wife, Taragh, and to his beautiful children during this time.

Dear Friends,

My father and John´s grandfather (Thomas Keegan) were brothers. I guess that means I am a lop-sided cousin of John´s. I was ten years older and best remember John as a skinny little kid visiting his grandparents´ country house in Lake Como, PA. The backyard had a bit of hill that couldn´t have been much more than ten feet. We used to lay down and roll like logs down the hill.

John was always so quiet. Maybe that was the only space left for him by his rowdier sisters, Kathleen and Eileen. Don´t tell the girls but I think John was the favorite of his grandfather, who called him Bucky.

The last time I saw John and the first time I met Taragh was at their wedding. The ceremony was on a beach in New Jersey. That day was so windy the sand was blowing but few seemed to care. It was wonderful to see Taragh and John setting off on their next chapter together. I remember John showed at the reception a slide presentation of photos. One that I remember very distinctly was of Grandpa Tom with little John holding a fish he caught. The fish was the only one in the picture without a big smile.

My heartfelt prayers go out to all the Milvihills. I hope your sorrow is quickly pushed aside by wonderful memories.

I will always remember Mole´s beautiful smile and how he was always laughing and just always seemed so happy. So sad to hear this news. I know he´s out of pain and has become a Guardian Angel. RIP Mole. - Marlene Resciniti (Nicole Schuren´s sister).

What FUN Memories we always made when we were with Johnny. How cool was it to attend the Super Bowl together (although we agreed... wrong team won ).
I especially enjoyed our iced Mocha Lates both in Chandler and LBI. I´ll continue to enjoy for us both.
YOU are forever in my heart. I love you Johnny!!
