I just heard of John's passing yesterday. I'm so very sorry. His mother and my father's mother were best friends. John and I had many laughs discussing the good old days. He was a fine man.

Deepest Heartfelt Condolences to The Murdock Family

My Uncle Jack Benjaman Somers was killed in action November 24, 1942 with the 1st Battalion 8th Marine FMF 2nd Marine Brigade on Guadalcanal.

My Uncles death on November 24, 1942 was verified by a John B. Murdock, 2nd Lt., USMCR listed on the Certificate of Death.

I was browsing when I came upon this notice and was curious if this was the same man that signed my uncle’s Death Certificate in the WWII Pacific conflict.

God Bless You and your Family

It was a tremendous gift to have known Uncle John these many years. Twinkling starlight shall now remind me of his shining eyes and sparking smile. The mere thought of him brings a smile, today and for always. He will live in our hearts and his legacy continue in stories about him to our children.

It was truly an honor and a pleasure to be one of Mr. Murdock's nurses. He was a sweet man with a wonderful sense of humor as well as a great smile! He always made me laugh! I shall miss him!

Think of The Greatest Generation and think of Uncle John. Duty, service, faith. A rich, full life.

Among newphews and nieces, Uncle John was our favorite. Funny and caring. He was capable of engaging anyone in the room. He lived his life with a "joie de vivre" that we would all do well to try to emulate.

Thanks Uncle John! We love you.
