Thelma McMORRIS Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the death of our mother Thelma McMorris, resident of Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw on April 11, 2017. Eldest child of Reginald and Christina Colbert, Thelma was born and raised in Regina and took her nursing training in Toronto. She and Gordon were married in 1948 and made their home and raised their family in Lewvan; where they were active supporters of the community. Mom had a competitive and independent spirit, she was always looking to the future, the past was over and gone. She loved cards, bridge in particular, sports, water skiing into her 70's and golfing in her 80's, gardening, learning new things, and spending time with her dear friends from Fort Qu'Appelle. At the age of 96, mom had 92 great years, with 4 years of gradual decline and loss of independence. Dad may have been the heart of our family but Mom was the strength and the backbone; her quiet optimism and gentle guidance will be greatly missed by all who knew her well. Thelma is survived by her beloved brother, Dr. Jack Colbert; her children, John (Lee) McMorris, Joanne (Alan) Gilbert, Lorna Merkel, Don (Cindy) McMorris; grandchildren, Noelle McMorris, Doyle (Connie) McMorris, Natasha Gilbert (Chris Dash), Brittany (Dane) Zahara, Craig McMorris, Mark McMorris; great-grandchildren, Bhody, Trehvan, Rhyker, and Hunter. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon McMorris; sister, Lorna Joy Ritchie; brother-in-law Robert Ritchie and sister-in-law Joyce Colbert. Thank you to the staff of Pioneer Lodge for their care and compassion in her last few years. In accordance with Mom's wishes there will be no funeral service. When I moved into the Lewvan community so very many years ago Themla became a friend and a mentor. Her commitment to the community along with her husband Gordon was admirable to watch and great to be part of. Although Gordon and I ended up arguing over many issues, Thelma was the picture of grace and always showed great kindness as we worked together on many projects. I know her family was was the core of her life and she celebrated each one of you. My thoughts are with all of you as you remember Thelma and the impact her life had.

To John, Joanne, Lorna, Don and your families, my symapthy for the loss of your mom. Being lucky enough to be raised in Lewvan, I had the great pleasure of knowing the McMorris family all my life. The family transcended the normal expectations of being good friends and neighbours. Thelma, along with Gord, embodied the kind of people that made Lewvan a wonderful place for a kid to grow up. Community mindedness, kindness, generosity and caring were all Thelma's hallmarks whether she was providing particular medical attention to a friend or neighbour in need or simply serving as a pillar of the community that was Lewvan. May God Bless her.

Our sincerest condolences to Don & Cindy and the entire McMorris family on the loss of a great lady. Growing up, I remember Thelma as a strong community minded person and being the go to for any medical related emergencies around the Lewvan area given her nursing background. Always willing to help.

Beyond the natural sadness and tears at hearing of your Mom's passing, my most profound feelings are those of gratitude at having known her so very well all my life...I am sure she thought she had an extra daughter most of our growing up years, whether she wanted one or not! My memories will always be of her gracious and kind demeanour, gentle sense of humour and a woman of class who mentored more than she ever knew...you were blessed with the best and I know the good memories will ease the tough moments
