John J. "Jack" Nicholson

John Joseph ("Jack") Nicholson, Joliet native and long-time resident of Oak Lawn, IL and Naples, FL, went to Heaven peacefully with family by his side June 14, 2023.

Born March 6, 1928 to Laurence Nicholson and Nell Middleton Nicholson, and brother to Jill (deceased 2007), Jack lived the type of life to which we all aspire: faithful husband of 70 years to Maxine (nee Sekola); exemplary father to John (deceased 1976), Daniel, Deborah, Susan, and Jeffrey; and proud grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 13.

Jack's somewhat understated approach to life belied the fact his 95 years included moments of adventure, including serving in the US Army and playing baseball in Japan as part of the Army's goodwill tour benefitting wartime orphans. A graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and the University of Illinois, Jack began his career as an auditor at Ernst & Ernst and retired as Corporate Controller of Diversey Corp. Jack was an avid Illini and Chicago sports fan, a lover of tennis and golf, and regularly enjoyed a little Neapolitan ice cream. Jack was simply easy to be around and will be missed by all.

Family and friends will meet Monday, June 26 at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Avenue, Joliet at 9:30 am. Mass will be held at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to avowcares.org in Jack's memory.
