John Paul Ovesny, Sr UPPER John P. Ovesny, Sr., 90 of Dickinson passed away at home on October 26,2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 25, 1932 in Wharton, Texas to Julius and Krestine (Hribek) Ovesny and was the youngest of seven children.

"Johnny O" grew up farming with his father near East Bernard, Texas. He graduated from East Bernard High School in 1950. By 1953, Johnny received his draft notice for the Army to prepare for the Korean War. He was set to complete his basic training at Fort Hood in August 1953 and head to war when the Armistice was signed in July 1953. Johnny continued his enlistment, learning radio operations, Morse Code, and how to drive a M59 armored personnel carrier. By April 1955, Johnny had completed his Army enlistment and began thinking about settling down with Alice Krause from Columbus, Texas. In preparing for marriage, Johnny worked as a Borden milkman until he was hired on at Union Carbide in Texas City, Texas in November 1955. He and Alice were married in Columbus, December 18,1955. John and Alice raised a family together in Dickinson, Texas. They separated in 1992 but remained friends until Alice's death in 2011.

Johnny continued his support for the military as a 60+ year member of American Post 226 in East Bernard. While raising his family in Dickinson, he was active with Boy Scouts and Dickinson Girl's Softball. He enjoyed participating in a bowling league in Texas City also. He and the family attended Faith Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Johnny ushered for services, and upon retirement from Carbide in April 1998, he joined the "Mowing Men" at FLC with Jim, Bobby, and John, Jr. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, a son Stephen Ovesny, daughter and husband Nancy and Paul Gast, and grandson Joshua Hutchinson. He is survived by his sons John Ovesny, Jr. and Edward Ovesny (Barbara)and daughters Christine Dendy, Catherine Hart (Neil), Carol Williams (Carlton), and Frances Gossett (Terry), his 21 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services---Friday, November 3, 2023 11 am-Visitation, Noon-Service, and 1 pm Reception: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church - 4613 Highway 3, Dickinson, TX 3 pm Graveside Ceremony - Forest Park East - 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Legion 226 of East Bernard, TX;East Bernard Veterans Memorial Wall, Faith Lutheran Church, Dickinson, Tx, or The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
