John Piacenza Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2025.
John (Jay) Piacenza, 76, of Weston, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025. Born on December 24, 1948, in Norwich, Connecticut, John lived a life defined by love for his family, unwavering integrity, and a deep appreciation for life's simplest joys.

John was the beloved husband of Kathleen "Candy" Piacenza. Their marriage of 55 years was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and devotion. He was a devoted father to Adam Piacenza (Melissa) of Middletown, CT and Amy Guzzi (Joseph) of Weston, CT. His role as "Papa" brought him immense joy; he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren-Alexa, Emma, Jenna, Joey, and Caroline-whose lives he enriched with his presence and playful spirit.

He is also survived by his brother Tom Piacenza of Groton, CT. John was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Virginia Piacenza of Preston, CT and his brother David Piacenza of Norwich, CT.

A hardworking man of great integrity, John worked as a middle school teacher for 35 years and worked many summers on the Fisher's Island Ferry. He found happiness not in grand gestures but in the everyday moments that truly matter-gathering around the dinner table with family or sharing laughter during an afternoon with his grandchildren.

John had a passion for gardening and also loved playing the drums but above all else, it was time spent with family that brought him the greatest fulfillment.

To those who knew him best, John was everything-a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a man whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those he held dear.

May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 35 Norfield Rd, in Weston, CT.

John J. Piacenza, Jay, to most of us who thrived on his company, and that of his wife, Candy, was an enabler who assembled us with other mutual friends at home, or away at an orchard, or winery where we had the most enjoyable of times.
After meeting up with Candy and Jay a time or two, we were invited to dinners at their home to celebrate New Year´s Eve. These gatherings held such great memories, as all hands assembled with contributions to the faire and to the graces recognized in each other. Add music and festive hats and the night was forever young and quite simply- magical.
Jay achieved Bandleader status along with immersing those assembled in a special pride felt by all.
We will miss you Jay, and the strong bonds of fellowship shared richly and easily.

Candy, Joe & Amy Guzzi, May these trees model giving a tenth of the life and love that Jay brought to his family and all those he came in contact with - from his students to his family and friends!
