John Pointer Obituary
1933 – 2021
Longtime resident of Yuba and Sutter Counties, John "Johnny Bear" Pointer, passed away on May 12, 2021, aged 87 years. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Claire (Barrett) Pointer; and his parents, William and Edith Pointer.
He is survived by his son, Christian Pointer (Christian's wife, Sharon O'Brien); daughter, Cara Hartley (Cara's husband, Rolf Hartley and their children, Ian, and Emma); and his sister, Debra Williams (Debra's Children, Charlotte Miller, Cheryl McBride, and Stephanie Abshire).
From an early age John had an uncanny ability to fix almost anything and grew up to become a "Jack-of-all-Trades". While stationed in Maryland with the U.S. Army, he taught electronics and thereafter worked in the field of mechanics gaining membership in both the Stationary and Operating Engineers Unions.
Although he is remembered by friends as Yuba College Sports Hall of Famer, football team MVP, and a sought-after mechanic, John will be best remembered for his generosity and unwavering willingness to help others; he could always be counted on to build or repair just about anything, and lend a hand whenever needed. He will be missed.
A private celebration is planned.

It's hard to imagine a world without John. He was bigger than life and there was always laughter in the house when he was visiting. My family loved him like one of our own. Sending my love to you all.

As good an athlete as he was, and he was exceptional, Johnny Pointer will always stand out in my memory for his sunny personality. Those of us who were in school with him rarely saw him without a smile on his face. My condolences to his family.
