To Laura + Porter Family;
I am indebted to the memory of John. Via our CSC assignments and training, JCP was my ultimate MENTOR. I express gratitude for his listening skills. His wisdom enabled and extended my maritime career from 1967-2024. I salute my leader, John. With great respect, Stu Quan

I was honored to serve as Chief Mate under John. His steady hand and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who sailed with him. He was a skilled mariner and a wonderful mentor-fair winds and following seas, Captain Porter.

To Laura, Donna, Sean and Jenny, our sincere condolences for the loss of John. He and I sailed together several times. He was Captain when I met him and was always asking questions and pushing his team to learn more. John valued the traditions of the sea, such as the time he shut off the electronics on a cross Pacific voyage and we had to navigate with the sun and the stars. We ended up just 2 miles north of our actual estimated position, which we felt pretty happy with. A lifetime memory for sure. I wish all of you the best as you carry on his memory. -- Missy Connolly, Chevron Shipping Co

To: Capt John "Puppy Dog" Porter
Class of 65

You did some awesome things as a Deckie graduate from CMA. You sailed long and hard, rose up thru the ranks then started sailing as Master

As a classmate and fellow merchant mariner I salute you. May you rest in peace and be welcomed into the arms of our lord. Go on to the next step where you can look back and see all the "Masterful" things you accomplished.

God bless
