John Poulter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2021.

June 25, 1946 –
February 28, 2021

It is with great sorrow that the family of John Poulter, age 74, announce his unexpected passing on February 28, 2021 at the TBRHSC due to complications of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. He left us after only 48 hours of taking ill.

John was raised in Fort William, ON, he attended Selkirk high school where he met his future wife, Janet Bonner. He was employed by Abitibi Price as a
pipefitter until early retirement in 2001. His retirement years were spent enjoying his favourite pastimes such as restoring his original 1966 Ford Mustang. He loved to putter in his garage and enjoyed watching all the car programs on TV as well as watching golf with his box of turtles by his side. Also enjoying spending time with close friends playing cards. In addition to spending afternoons at the Fort William Country Club with his best buddies. He especially looked forward to our trips to Calgary visiting Cindy and her family enjoying family dinners and playing board games. He treasured the times watching Cole and Jett play hockey.

John and Jan spent over 25 years travelling to the Caribbean, Mexico, and a couple of southern U.S. states with family and good friends where wonderful memories were made. Enjoying the last two vacations with Mel and Brady in Punta Cana.

He had pride in his home and yard and was often seen outside puttering around tidying up this and that. Often a man of few words, he truly was proud of his daughters Melanie and Cindy and his grandsons Cole and Jett. He also enjoyed visiting with his sister Lynn. He helped her with errands often referring to their time together as driving Miss Daisy. He was her right hand man and she will miss him greatly.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Jan of 53 years, his daughters Melanie (Brady) Scavarelli, Cindy (Ken) Patola, grandsons Cole and Jett Patola, sister Lynn Chalmers, nieces Bonnie (Jim) Ducharme and her family, Kim Kelly (Rob) and her family, his brother-in-law David (Debby) Bonner, nephews Michael and Paul Bonner. Also many of his extended Poulter family relatives.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the doctors for their expertise in the ER: Dr. Jacobson, Dr. Ingves (surgeon) and in the ICU Dr. Stallwood, Dr. Blonde, Dr. Holmes and Dr. McCallum. Nurses: Shannon and Jeff for their care and compassion for John and family.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the TBRHSC.

John was one of our favourite faces to see around the country club. He always greeted us with a friendly smile and we enjoyed our little chats with him out on the course. He was such a kind man and we are saddened to hear about his passing. Our hearts go out to you and your family, please know that you are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Dear Jan and family. It was very sad to read of John's passing the other day. We were good friends back in the Selkirk days and would run into each other on occasion over the years. It brought back memories of a great guy and some great times we had many years ago

I worked with John at Thunder Bay Packaging many years ago and he was an amazing guy. I had no idea what I was doing and he always took the time to help and teach. He was truly one of the good ones. I have such fond memories of him from that time. He often bragged about his girls Cindy and Mel. My thoughts are with you all.
