John Radcliffe Obituary

John Robert 'Bob' Radcliffe, 92, of Munising, died early Thursday morning at Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Mr. Radcliffe was born on June 7, 1912 at Eagle River, Wisconsin to the late Amos and Emma Schaeffer Radcliffe. On December 22, 1940 he married the former Gladys M. Smith and next week they would have celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Bob was a graduate of the University of Michigan and had also attended the University of Wisconsin. He worked for 35 years with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a forester, where he became very familiar with all areas of the Upper Peninsula. He was also a registered land surveyor. Bob possessed a passion for trout fishing and knew almost every trout fishing stream in the U.P. He was also an avid hunter and spent many memorable seasons at hunting camp. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Munising Knights of Columbus council. He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Munising; one son, John Robert Merri Ann Baker-Radcliffe Radcliffe of Durand, MI; three daughters, Robin A. Daniel McCollum of Chatham, Jill K. Layton of Donelly, ID and Margaret 'Peg' Walter Turbin of Harrison, MI; also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters, Lenore Pinkerton and Irene Matheson. At Bob's request there will be no visitation. A family service will take place next summer. Burial will be in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider the Marquette General Hospital Foundation for oncology purposes in Bob's memory, 420 W. Magnetic St., Marquette, MI 49855.
