John Michael Rebar passed away on Nov. 10, 2020, at Geisinger CMC. He celebrated his 93rd birthday on Oct. 29. John was the loving husband of Mary (Zenzel) Rebar, who died in April 2004. John was born and raised in Throop. He was the son of the late John and Susan (Mandula) Rebar.
John is survived by his daughter, Jean Marie and her husband, Gus Boswell, Cumming, Ga.; and his daughter-in-law, Elaine Morrell, Throop. He also leaves his grandchildren, John and Kris Rebar, Cooper City, Fla.; Jeanette Morrell and Brian Shabroski, Archbald; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Carly, Sydney and Lexi Rebar, and Luke Shabroski. He is lovingly remembered by Janet, Frank and Josh Feola, Ken Halloran and Ricardo Hauser, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Rebar Jr. in May 2004; and son-in-law, Dave Morrell in February 2010. John was also predeceased by a brother, Michael J. Rebar; and three sisters, Anna Polasko, Mary Cimballa and Verna Gloss.
John attended Throop schools and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, St. Anthony's Church and Blessed Sacrament Parish. A World War II veteran, John served in the United States Air Force. He worked as a machinist at RCA in Dunmore, retiring early after a hip injury. He was a member of VFW Shopa Davey Post No. 6082, Peckville.
John had a huge, giving heart and treated everyone like family. His greatest joy was to cook for his loved ones, often making more food than his family could possibly eat! He was very handy and could fix almost anything. He loved grocery shopping, gardening and feeding the animals in his yard and enjoyed listening to classical music. Several hip and knee replacements could not stop him! He was still living by himself, driving, shopping, cooking, doing his own yardwork, and more! He had a great sense of humor and was sharp as a tack until his very last day! His memory was long and he had a mind for facts and figures. His grandchildren will cherish his big heart, amazing recipes and the handmade Christmas trees he made from the big pinecones he found while living in South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the cardiology team at Geisinger CMC, especially Dr. Nawaz, Dr. Lerovante, Jennifer Rebar, CRNP, and all the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for John, along with Dr. Alocci, his family doctor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Parish, at St. Anthony's Church in Throop.

Condolences to all the family of Uncle John. We enjoyed our phone calls to him and a visit last year despite our distance. He was a kind, generous and intelligent man and will be fondly remembered.
