John Redondo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2025.
John Celaya Redondo, affectionately known as "Pops," passed away peacefully on the morning of April 19, 2025, at the home of his sister Anna in Glendale, Arizona. He was born on December 12, 1937, in Maricopa County to Jose Redondo and Maria Celaya.

John spent his early years on the Tal'-Wi-Wi (Bumstead) Ranch in Litchfield Park, where his father worked and the family resided. In 1955, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and served honorably until 1961. His pride in being a Marine remained a defining part of his identity throughout his life.

In 1959, John married Glenna Fowler, and together they had three children: Kathy, John, and Chris. He later married Janice Reno, with whom he had two children: Jimmy and Chrissy.

A devoted family man, John worked hard to support his loved ones and treasured time spent with his many siblings, nieces, and nephews. In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. He often took his family camping across Arizona, creating lasting memories.

John was also a passionate sports fan with a particular love for football, both college and professional-and always felt a sense of loss when the season came to an end.

He is survived by his five children; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Anna Redondo. He was preceded in death by his parents; twelve siblings; and his first wife, Glenna Redondo.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A Service will be held May 12, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00pm at Abel Funeral Services 1627 N. 51st Avenue

John was one of best, most trusted, loyal, hard-working men I ever knew. It was an honor that he called me his friend. I offer my condolences and prayers to Kathy, John, Chris, Jimmy, Chrissy, and to all of John's family.
