John Albert Reichert, MD, age 89 of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 2, 2024. Preceded in death by parents Eloise Bringgold Reichert, Romaine Raymond Reichert and sister Ann Anderson (Charles). Survived by beloved wife Betty (of 56 years), brother Tom Reichert (Judy), children, Matthew (Kumiko), Sarah (Chris), Molly (Dziwe) and grandchildren, Grace, August, and baby Deo.

John grew up in Minneapolis, graduated from Southwest High School, attended the University of Notre Dame and the University of Minnesota Medical School. He practiced medicine at Park Nicollet/Methodist Hospital as an OBGYN for 37 years and pioneered Rapid Recovery research and protocol in the greater Twin Cities metro area. He often talked about how he couldn't do the work he did without the collaboration of his amazing colleagues. He was most grateful for the expertise and support of his nurses-especially Linda Lang. He was a champion for womens' health, taking part in multiple medical humanitarian trips to Guatemala, Nicaragua (Central America) and Tanzania (Africa).

John was an avid traveler and outdoorsman taking his family on many canoe trips in the Boundary Waters. His greatest passion was hiking and trekking. With friends and family he hiked the Appalachian Trail, Superior Hiking Trail, 33 of the Colorado Fourteeners, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Himalayas, and his favorite trek- traveled at age 73- the Haute Route from Chamonix France to Zermatt Switzerland. Above all else, John valued his family and was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother, and son.

The Reichert family is thankful to Interim Health Services for their very competent and compassionate care. The family also extends deep gratitude to Margaret Sullivan, Jenny Chawla, Rosemary Alliah, Richard Sisson, and Ayabavi Beleyi for their phenomenal care of John in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Eloise Reichert School of Nursing Scholarship, University of Minnesota Foundation. Memorial service will be held on June 1, 2024 at St Joan of Arc Church 4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis. Visitation at 10am and service at 11am.

I worked in the same department OB/GYN along side Dr. Reichert. My memory of him was in the mornings when he would see me pull into the lot, and when I would pass his office he would say"Here come that nurse in her red hot car"and we would both laugh.
My condolences to his family and may he R. I. P. Mary Sekula
