Threw on the El Mocambo '77 live set by the Stones in Toronto and realized again that I never really thanked John for saving a city boy's life on the occasional camping excursion...and what I would not give to hear that cover of "Soul Kitchen" one more time! Not a day goes by, Southside, my dear bud! "We'll ride them someday..."

Gifted musician...talented craftsman...genuine American sportsman...dear friend...and my favorite vocalist! John's unswerving approach to life and how to live it will continue to be a source of inspiration for those that his touched in so many ways. His fierce independence and ability to cut to the chase at any given moment was only surpassed by his generosity and charisma...as well as his uncanny knack for cracking people up with his warm, defiant and transcendent sense of humor that was still on tap near an end that he saw coming. When it was too painful for him to accept a hug (too late on the attempt, bud), John instead offered one of his patented handshakes (that I never quite mastered) and got that playful look back when he said, "Tom, you need to get out more..." My heart goes out to all of the family and friends, especially Brookelyn Jade and Lucas, who knew even more firsthand, up close and personal what a beautiful guy he was. Godspeed, John Rideout, I love you, man, and you are already missed dearly! Until we meet again, my friend.

I first met John at Ranch Camp in 1972. I remember how much he enjoyed all the camp activities and really put his all into everything we did, from horsebackriding to swimming or helping to start a campfire. He had a good sense of himor and truly did enjoy nature in his youth. I will always remember John and I send my sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Fran and family,
My condolences and prayers for comfort during this time of loss. I happened to be with all my brothers recently, before John's passing, and as we sat around a warm and cozy
fire, on a night lite up with bright stars, we were reminising over childhood memories growing up on Glenview. We shared many fun and happy memories which included John, who I learned that evening, just how much of a special friend John was to my brothers. Those early years together with John, being advendurous and just being boys, will never be forgotten by them. John was so talented and had a fulfilling life and legacy to leave behind. As you gaze upon the Heavens above, may your faith help you find peace, knowing that your rock star is now in the arms of our Almighty loving Father; all pain and suffering removed and now being crowned for his love and friendship he had with so many that held and will always continue to hold John dear to their hearts.
With deepest sympathy,
Patty (Lehnert) Mickens
