Thank you for taking care of my precious daughter 40 years ago. I was very young and I was told that you were the best, and you were. I hope and pray that you have left a mark on a other Dr. so that they can experience the care and expertise that you shared with your patients.God Bless your family. I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Riepenhoff's passing. I too was a patient of his from the time I was 3 mos old through high school. I was referred to him after another Dr did not know what to do with me. I would not be here today without him. I vividly remember those shots of penicilin. I also remember that my mother dreaded me getting sick on his day off (Weds. if I remember correctly) and having to see one of the other Dr's in the practice as they would refuse to give me a shot. Every time I would be back 3 days later with pneumonia. Even though he came a cross a bit gruff sometimes, he always knew what to do and we trusted him completely. He was truly a great man.

Dr. Riepenhoff will always be remembered for his leadership in the pediatric community and the legacy he has left with helping to found the Children's Practicing Pediatrician ("CPP") organization in 1985. He served as CPP's first President and guided it through its formative years. Every pediatrician that has been a member of the section of general pediatrics at Nationwide Children's Hospital will recognize the wonderful contribution Dr. Riepenhoff made to their profession.

I remember my visits to Dr Riepenhoff's office during the 60's and 70's My mother took all three of us children to him for all of those years. She felt SO confident in him as a doctor that she ALWAYS said and I quote: "If Dr Riepenhoff told me to 'throw you in the river' that's exactly what I'd do" - meaning, whatever advice he gave her, she followed it confidently to a tee. I am now 49yrs old but over the last decade or two, if his name came up in conversation, she would make the same statement!

As a teacher and then a partner and mentor he helped shape me as a pediatrician. I will miss talking with him and will always treasure having the opportunity to have known and worked with him. To Nancy and Jill, I hope it gives you comfort to know how highly esteemed he was in his chosen profession. Mag and I will not be able to attend but send our heartfelt sympathies to all of you.

Nancy and family,
We are very sorry to hear about the loss of doc. He was president of the Central Ohio Pediatric Society from 1965-66 as you know, and faithfully stayed active as an Emeritus member until just recently. He lived a wonderful life doing things that he loved and being a good friend to so many. The children (now adults) of Central Ohio are thankful for his expert care and he was one of the ones that made our local Nationwide Children's Hospital the great place that it is today. He will be missed but never forgotten! Our deepest sympathy.
Amy Jo Hernandez - Director, Central Ohio Pediatric Society and COPS Board of Directors/Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, OH

From pre-school child to high school graduate, I was fortunate to have Dr. Riepenhoff as my physician. I can't reflect on my youth without seeing his role in it, or his all-too familiar office on Sullivant Avenue shared with Drs. Cooper and Rueger. I was there before I could count, and countless times after.
Dr. Riepenhoff spoke few words, and his approach was direct, yet he was never less than professional and caring. Once, after telling my mother I should go to Children's Hospital for treatment, she frantically noticed she had no extra cash for downtown parking. He removed his wallet, and gave her a bill.
She never forgot that.
Dr. Riepenhoff didn't scare me as a child. Rather, he made me feel safe because he always made me well. What better feeling is there to instill in children? I've no doubt he made other baby-boomers feel the same way.
I extend my condolences to the Riepenhoff family. You're in my thoughts and prayers today. God bless.

Lived the obit: particularly the part about him being scary. I can see that shot of penicillin now! However, I am proud to say that Dr. Riepenhoff even helped my parents "pick me out." he visited the orphanage where I was to make sure I was good enough to bring home when my parent adopted me. He was a great doctor and mom, the former Pat Tyler, RN thought he was outstanding.

To the Riepenhoff Family;
Dr. Riepenhoff was truly the epitome of the Ol' Country Doctor with his demeanor, character, care, and concern for all of his patients.
In 1969 at Thanksgiving time I was a very sick little girl and when I was taken to see him, he ran some tests and diagnoised me as a diabetic and had my folks take me to Children's Hospital - a diagnosis and act that literally saved my life ! I have never forgotten that and am etenally grateful that he made that call.
Another time in the 1970's one Christmas I was again very sick with the flu and an earache and when my folks called the after hours line, Dr. Riepenhoff was on call and had my folks meet him at the office where he was waiting on our arrival and let us in so he could treat me and give me the necessary medicine. I always remembered that trip because we went to the office at night and it was cold and snowing. Dr. Riepenhoff did the examination and then tucked me close to his heart and gave me the shot that was so quick that it never hurt !
A few days later I went back in for a follow up visit and I remember how happy he was that I was doing so much better. After that late night visit, I was never scared of him and his business like manner again as I had seen his care and compassion that night and how he had treated me like I was the only patient in the world that mattered to him.
Dr. Riepenhoff was a class act, a true professional, a surperb doctor, and a testament to his faith and calling in life. Everyone should be so privleged to have a loving, caring doctor like him !
My deepest, heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family as well as my prayers.
May God wrap you in the comfort of his embrace now and in the days ahead.
" We thank our Lord for you so much,
The ways you served, your special touch,
We see Christ's love in what you do;
For how you served, we say THANK YOU ! "
" well done, thou good and faithful servant....."
Matthew 25: 21

My family and I are deeply thankful for Dr. Riepenhoff - He saw my sister and I through all the ailments we experienced when growing up in the late 50s-60s. In 1961, when doctors were not making house calls routinely, my folks called Dr. R at midnight as I was very ill - he came from his home in Arlington to the Hilltop to care for me and kept me from needing to go to the hospital. We have talked about that night many times over the years! We will always be grateful - our sincere sympathy to his family - may you be comforted by all the good memories of this wonderful man.

I was a patient of Dr. Riepenhoff from the time I was born in the late 1950s till my teens. I remember him being no nonsense and very business like. He also was one of the most dedicated Doctors I have ever had the privilege of being a patient of. I also took my own children to the practice after they were born. I even remember one of them being really sick on a weekend and him having us bring them to his house where he had a exam room setup in the basement if I remember right. Also if I remember right meeting my parents over at the office during non office hours a couple of times when I was extremely sick. My late mother always said that she didn`t know what she would have done without him when I was a baby as I had all kinds of problems with different formulas. He tried and tried different ones (no similac back then), till he found one that worked.I also remember running into him working at the clinics down at Childrens when I took my children there. I`m very sorry to hear of his passing, I`ll be sure to say a prayer for all of you and Dr. Riepenhoff, god bless all of you.

Although my calling was veterinary medicine, not pediatrics, there were three individuals I looked up to and admired more than anyone as role models for how a medical professional should behave, and Dr. Riepenhoff was one of those three. I regret that my brothers and I will be in Canada this coming week, but my heart goes out to the family. I am proud to have known such a fine man, and mourn his passing.
