John has a heart of gold, for animals, wild or domestic. A Scout leader, whom i'm sure has taught Wilderness skills to many young men. He loved to share that knowledge and I learned a lot from him. He is missed, and I thought of him as family, and I will remember him in his overalls, bleach white hair and beard. His overall love and compassion, his quick wit and sense of humor, and a heart so large! The world lost a good soul, Heaven gained an angel. He's now reunited with all his loving pets, watching The Gladiator fights (and inside joke, family will know) and is living it up in Paradise. May God bless you John, forgive you for your sins, may you have peace and overflowing Joy. I wish this most of all for you, you deserve it. I love you John and thank you... We will see you soon. I'm glad that I knew John during our time at Bell Jr High and Will Rogers. He helped me quite a bit with VA benefits for college after my Army discharge. I sure he'll be greatly missed. RIDE ON!

May his Memory be eternal

I first met John at the UNC Chess Club in the early 70's. We continued laying off and on up until about 5 years ago. I will miss his wonderful opening choices and dry humor. Save a game for me John!

Although I didn't know John well I feel the pain that family feels with the death of a loved one. We call upon Gods love and always presence for guidance and everlasting ❤

I'm so happy that my wife and I got to reconnect with John at our 50th high school reunion. We went to Franklin Elementary together, and John's mother was our Cub Scout leader, with his brother Dick as our Den Leader. It was so great to find John with his same sense of humor. He is missed.
