John Risley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.
December 10, 1964 - December 26, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Risley on December 26, 2024, at the age of 60 and 16 days. John was a beloved father, son, brother, brother-in-law, husband, and friend. His life was defined by his passions, his humor, and his unwavering love for his family.

John was a man of many interests. He found great joy in the simple things-whether it was enjoying the tranquility of the beach, savoring a cold beer, or taking in the sights and sounds of a car show or coin show. His love for history was matched only by his passion for reading, and he was a dedicated collector with an ever-growing array of his trinket-treasures.

One of John's most cherished pastimes was bird watching on his porch, where he found solace in the peaceful moments spent observing nature. He was also known for his keen interest in Philadelphia sports teams, his love for french fries, and his fondness for food trucks. John could often be found in one of two places: perusing the beaches of Wildwood, or sunbathing with his cat, Minnie, enjoying the fresh air and the company of those around him.

John had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that brought joy to everyone who crossed his path. His legendary one-liners could brighten any room, and he had an incredible ability to lift spirits with a well-timed quip. Always ready with advice, whether solicited or not, he was also a patient and attentive listener, making him a trusted confidant to many. After retiring, John became a familiar presence in Town Talks and various Facebook groups, where his wide range of interests helped him foster a deep sense of community. He eagerly looked forward to each new edition of the Herald, often reading aloud the Spout Out section to share a laugh with those around him.

John's hands were rarely still-there was nothing he couldn't fix, and he was always ready to lend a hand or offer his expertise. If he didn't know how to tackle something, he could quickly learn, often reaching out to his vast network of friends, whom he held dear, recalling memories of their youthful days together. His phone was constantly ringing, as family and friends marveled at his ability to diagnose and guide people through fixing anything over the phone. His talents were often described as unmatched by both friends and coworkers, and his generosity with his time and knowledge left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was a devoted husband, father, and friend, always present for his loved ones. John had a natural ability to make everyone feel welcome.

John is survived by the "Best Wife Ever", his children, and his extended family, who will deeply miss his wisdom, humor, and the love he shared so generously. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

If you would like to pay your respects to John and his family, in place of flowers, please donate to Samaritan Health Services in John's honor at https://www.samaritannj.org/giving/donate-now/

Funeral services will be held at the North Wildwood Methodist Church located at 139 E 2nd Ave, North Wildwood, NJ 08260 at four pm on December 30th.

To the Risley family our heart goes out to you. John was a great man. I grew up with John and we had so much fun together, playing horseshoes, camping, or just hanging out. He will be greatly missed. He had a great personality. He was like my brother and I will miss him. Love you man.

Tina and family, we are so saddened to hear of John´s passing. The John I knew was quiet but attentive especially to your mother. We loved that he would come down and spend time with her. Be it on the beach, getting ice cream, dinner, or just going for a ride around town, he brought her so much joy.
I really appreciated all the house hunting the both did for me. He found houses that I hadn´t seen and I thought I saw them all.
Your loss is great but your memories of all the good times, long conversations, and the love you both shared will be everlasting. We love you!

Jaime and I work with John at Equipment Markerters. He was a great guys always willing to help anyone who needed it. Other than his vast knowledge of repairs and locations his directions to location always involved a Dunkin´ Donuts that you pass by to get there. He will be sorely missed, his positive demeanor and mellow personality was contagious!
