John William Samuel

John Samuel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25, 2008.
Although we are deeply saddened by the loss of John William Samuel, a long time resident of Thousand Palms, on Saturday October 18, 2008, at age 87, it is also appropriate to remember and celebrate the life he enjoyed. John William Samuel was born in Carterville, IL and was known as "Bill" to his friends and family. Bill graduated from Hollywood High School after his family relocated to California when Bill was a teenager. After high school he enlisted in The U.S. Coast Guard and protected our country from the Japanese incursion during WW II. Bill was on duty at Point Hueneme when a Japanese submarine fired upon The California Coast just north of Santa Barbara. Bill worked in escrow for many years and retired early to enjoy desert life. His passions included travel, dancing and his family. Bill shared his enjoyment dancing away the desert evenings with many willing partners. He was a gracious host and welcomed friends and family into his home. Bill was always ready for an adventure and traveled whenever possible. His son, Charles Samuel of Madison, AL, and his three daughters, Sandi Barrett (Joe) and Cherie Webb of Moorpark, as well as Sandra Samuel of Thousand Palms survive Bill. His six grandchildren, John Eric, Scott, Leslie, Ryan (Annie), Patrick, Melissa and a great grandchild have also suffered an irreplaceable loss. Additionally, two ex-wives, Erena Leonard and Shirley Cadena, survive John William Samuel. This tribute is to celebrate a life well lived. You protected our country, pursued your passions and loved your family. Many friends and family will feel your absence in their lives. We will celebrate your life as much as we will miss your presence. Farewell Bill…
