SHELBY - The Rev. John Screen, 66, of 108 Enola Road, departed this life on Monday, July 7, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 25, 1941, in Bainbridge Ga., the son of the late Roosevelt Sr. and Mary Hinson Screen. Rev. Screen was a devoted minister always sharing the word of God with others. He served as a Gaston County police officer before entering the trucking industry, where he retired from ABF Freight Company after 30 years of service. He received a reward for his dedication to St. Jude children, aiding in the relief of over two hundred children over the years.
His wife, Alice Camp Screen, two brothers, Ricky and Roosevelt Jr., and a sister, Runette S. Edwards preceded him in death.
Rev. Screen leaves to cherish loving memories three daughters, Marsha S. Johnson (David) of Georgia; Nikki S. Miller (Otis) of Gastonia; and Kimberly S. McElhaney (Brandon) of Charlotte; one son, John Screen Jr. of New York; six brothers, Celavus Screen, Randy Screen, Lavon Screen, Curtis Screen, Shawn Rollins, Chris Rollins; two sisters, Mildred Rollins and Joyce Hodges; ten grandchildren, Alicia, Julian, Kayla, Tarryn, Torrien, Sabrina, Taymar, Zerrhya, Reagan and Allison; a beloved sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Mitchell (Jesse) of Cherryville; brother-in-law, Harry Dean Grice of Cherryville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral: Saturday July 12, at 12:30 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Kings Mountain
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial: Walls Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
