John L. “Jack” Shay died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on February 27, 2006, he was 62. Jack was born in Boston, raised in Somerville & Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, where he was a member of the 1959 State Championship Golf Team. Last May, he was inducted into the Melrose High School Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the golf team. Mr. Shay worked as a meat cutter at Cerretani’s Supermarket in Melrose for many years, Johnnies Foodmaster a few years and the past 5 years at DeMoulas Market in Rowley. Jack was an avid Red Sox & Patriots fan, as well as a sports enthusist. He was the husband of Eileen F. (Pothier) Shay of Melrose. Father of Scott M. Shay of Melrose. Brother of James of N. Andover, Kathleen Boudreau of Bedford, Richard of FL, Robert of NH, Rosemary Beckford of NH, Daniel of Burlington, Charles of Tingsboro, David of Melrose, Thomas of Braintree & Gerald Shay of Marshfield. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday March 3rd at 10:30AM. Funeral Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 16 Summer St. Saugus, at 11AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Friday morning from 9:00-10:30AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Please omit flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St. Framingham 01701.
