John R. Shepler, 70, of Webster, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in his home. Born in California, Pa., on Jan. 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Edna Irene (Marshall) Shepler. John was retired from USX and also retired as a lieutenant from the Forward Township Police Department. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Blyth Lodge F&AM No. 593 West Newton, and was very active in the Rostraver Volunteer Fire Department No.1 in Webster. He also attended the Webster Presbyterian Church and served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Diane G. (Hite) Shepler; a daughter, Cheryl (Darryl Sr.) Yonkers of Donora; three grandchildren, Darryl (Tammy) Yonkers, Nicole Yonkers and Jordan (Nikki) Yonkers; a great-grandson, Carter Jarmon; a brother, Norman (Christine) Shepler of Speers; a sister, Margaret Tomasiak of Donora; a brother-in-law, Jory (Joan) Hite of San Francisco, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joni Rae Shepler. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com" target="new">www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Bishop William H. Ilgenfritz officiating. Interment will be held in Fells Cemetery, Rostraver Township. Blyth Lodge F&AM No. 593 will conduct a funeral service for Brother Shepler on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
