After a valiant 4 month struggle with Pancreatic Cancer, Jay passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014. Jay was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on Sept. 17, 1935 to John and Bertha Sims. He came to California when he was 6 months old and lived in Concord his whole life, until six years ago when he moved to Oakley. Jay worked for PG&E as a power engineer in the service planning dept. in the Concord office. He worked for PG&E for 35 years and retired in 1993.
Jay loved camping, fishing, bowling, woodworking and he loved the San Francisco Giants. He was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Druids. He loved socializing and talking with people and he never met a stranger. He was the kindest man you will ever meet and people always called him a 'big teddy bear". His family will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene Sims, and his daughter, Lorrie Sims, his granddaughter Brittany Sims and his grandson Michael Klekar, his great grandchildren, Makayla and Rylie. He was preceded in death by his daughter Diana Lynn Sims 'Dee Dee'.
Jay will be cremated and his wishes were not to have any services or celebration of life. He wanted to be remembered the way he lived his life. He was looking forward to having his usual root beer floats on the 4th of July while watching the Fireworks with his family. Please have a root beer float on the 4th in his remembrance. HE WILL BE MISSED
