I was honoured to have John as my brother-in-law for all these years. Karen Savery (our youngest sister), and Elizabeth Doering (my daughter), just returned from attending John's funeral in Leduc. I would like you all to know that my sister, Myrtle, and her entire family were very comforted by your notes of sympathy and words of comfort. David, her son, read each and every message to her, posted in this Guest Book and she and her family were very touched by your kindness. While staying with her, I was astounded at the number of friends who came visiting with food, flowers, donations and fellowship. Such concern and caring is indeed a testimony of how well liked and respected they were in their community. Thank you all. You have brought great comfort to all the family.

I am Johns first cousin,Bill Parke. The first time I met John was in 1953. Some times we was refered to him as Jack. His mother Molly had came to the states from Belfast, Ireland to visit my father, her brother Bill Parke and a sister Sadie Huber. I did not see John agin till 2006 when my wife Linda and visted he and Myrtle. We spent three great days together.Which I will never forget. When we left I felt I was leaving a brother not a cousin.

Linda and I send our best with "LOVE" to Myrtle and her children.

Doctor John was a role model and responsible for my chosen profession - medicine. He had a zest for life and was blessed with a brilliant mind. I'll miss him a great deal.

I worked with Dr. Smyth for many years as a nurse in the Leduc Hosp. I have many fond memories of his early morning visits to his hospital patients and waiting for a babies' arrival in the delivery room. He was a warm and friendly gentleman and his passing will be felt in the Leduc area.
