John Paul Sommer

Blairsville - Mr. John Paul Sommer age 69 of Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Monday September 29, 2025 following an extended illness. Mr. Sommer was born on August 27, 1956 in Reykjavik, Iceland, the son of the late Robert Cornelius Sommer and the late Rannveig Jonsdottir. He grew up in Iceland and then lived in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Sgt. First Class John Sommer was a veteran of the US Army and served over twenty years for his country. While in the military he served in Darmstadt, Germany and Seoul, South Korea. He also worked over twenty two years with the Social Security Administration. He loved boating, fishing, collecting old vinyl records and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Robert A. Sommer. Mr. Sommer was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. Sommer are his loving wife and best friend of forty one years, Mary Ann Keena Sommer of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Lindsey Sommer and Zsolt Peli of Blairsville, one son, Robert Sommer of Abbeville, AL., one brother and sister in law, Marlow Sommer and Kris Kana of Lady Lake, FL., one sister, Nina Dickerson of Deland, FL., three grandchildren, Bailey, Amelia and Evie, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Children's Cancer Society in Mr. Sommer's memory.
