We knew John through caving. He always greeted you with a great smile and a big hug. He was a kind and compassionate man with an active life and great stories to share. Prayers for your family. He will be greatly missed.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of John's passing. I met John while a student at Salem College (WV), and have fond memories of caving trips with him and shenanigans at the old field house in Tucker County. We fell out of touch over the years, but reconnected via Facebook a few years back. I am honored to have called him friend.

I knew John for many years while he volunteered with the Roane County Rescue Squad, he was such a good person. RIP sir.
