I am so sorry for your loss. I have known John in the furniture business for many years and he has always had an easy smile and friendly comment. I pray your memories will guide you thru the hard days, and it will be a blessing to know that he was loved and considered very special by those of us who had the pleasure of working with him.

I want to express my sincerest sympathy to the Sparger family. We have all truly lost a wonderful person. Johnny's smile and enthusiasm for life will always be in my memories. It won't seem right for him not to be at our reunion in a couple of weeks. I know he is in Heaven bringing joy to all around him. Rest in peace Johnny and know that your friends you grew up with will always love you.

I got a call from Jimmy Paul that our Friend and classmate Johnny Sparger passed away. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing and calling Johnny a friend feels a tremendous loss that cannot be described. I know our collective thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children. Few people I have known in my lifetime have had the positive impact Johnny did on others. His smile and infectious laugh was shared with all who came in contact with him. His good looks, talent, tough competitive spirit and easy going way made him very popular in school - but it never went to his head. He never forgot his friends through good times or bad. With so many posers in this life Johnny stands out as a real person, one of those individuals that only come along once in a life time. Though Johnny would be the first to laugh and say "perfect" NO WAY, I personally cannot think of anyone who's life left such a positive impact on so many. Johnny embodied the best of the Class of 69 and that positive light that he shared will live on in each of us who knew him and called him a Friend!

I had the great pleasure of working with John at Southern Furniture from 2000-2006. When I first joined the company John was so gracious in offering his help and support. During the years together I learned so much from John. He was the consummate sales professional. He was a master at markets of making every presentation full of passion, romance and expertise. I watched him often just to learn and polish my own style. His love of life and wonderful smile will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with John's family. Rest in peace my friend.....

I adored John. We worked together at southern Furniture and he had to be the most joyful man I have ever known. Seeing his big smile in the showroom made everyday just a bit better. I am so lucky to have called him a friend and have the blessing of his kindness. Heaven is a whole lot more fun with John there. Love to his family, Laura Orsborn Coley

John and I grew up together living on 4th street in Spencer. I moved to Spencer my sophmore year and attended North Rowan with John where we became fast friends. We played baseball together, slept over at our parents home. As teenagers we knew no boundaries, we had a blast and stay out of trouble most of the time. John was my first roomate at Appalachian after my discharge from the Army in 1972. Couldn't have had a better person to introduce me to college than Johnny. It was an extension of our great time in High School. We both went our business career ways, but always got together at NRHS reunions and laughed about our craziness. I last seen Johnny at Freddie Collins, another classmate and friend, funeral. Great to see him, talked, laughed again, hugged and promised to see each other soon. I'll miss you John even though we didn't see each other often, I knew you were there as a friend. And you know what Johnny, I'll see you again in the best place ever, we'll laugh, hug, and have a good time again.....see ya in heaven my friend.
God Bless You and Your Family

I first met John in the Southern Furniture parking lot during the spring pre market of 2003. He was the first rep I met and as an intimidated 23 year old just out of school his cheerful professionalism and sincere nature genuinely calmed me as I embarked on a new career. From that first meeting on John was always someone I could look up to and as the smoothest pitch man I have ever encountered, someone I could learn from. He was an all around great human being. John you will be missed.

John, since our days at Southern you and I became very good friends with a mutual respect for each other. With you being the only child like my mom, then you lost your mom I felt even a deeper bond between us because you like her was a very nice and such a gentleman. I will miss our conversations and seeing you at market. May God be with you and your family. Please know I will miss you dearly. Your friend Esse.
