John G. "Sparky" Sparks, age 83, of Lewiston, died Friday afternoon March 16th at d'Youville Pavilion with family at his side. He was born in Lewiston on June 2, 1934, one of three children born to John and Irma Sparks. Sparky was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1952. Mr. Sparks was a Military Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge. On April 1, 1967, he married the former Lola Bernier. In the years that followed, Sparky worked as a truck driver for Westinghouse Co. as he and Iola lived 28 years in Massachusetts, splitting time between Newton and Norfolk. After time there, they moved to Florida for five years before returning to Maine where he retired from driving. John was a member of the American Legion, The Eagles' Club and the Pastime Club. He was an avid car enthusiast and especially liked his Chevys and Cadillacs. As a young boy, he enjoyed time in the woods hunting with his grandfather. Sparky was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband and uncle who will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Iola Sparks of Buckfield; two sisters Irma Janosco of Lewiston and Patricia Janosco of Lisbon Falls and

A visitation will take place at Fortin Group / AUBURN Friday 4-6 PM with a Celebration of his Life and Words of Remembrance taking place at 5:15 PM. Committal Prayers, Military Honors and burial will take place in the spring in the family lot at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. A service of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Service 217 Turner St. AUBURN 783-8545.
