John Stebbins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2008.
John E. Stebbins, 58, Livingston, Tenn., died January 28, 2008, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born October 21, 1949, in Daytona Beach to the late Albert Carl and Jennie Louise Smith-Stebbins. He is survived by two daughters: Carrie (& Tim) Stebbins-Enck, Daytona Beach, and Christina (& Adam) Gaither, Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren: Michael and Mollie; four sisters: Roberta (& Terry) Tunstall, Livingston, Tenn., Olive Mary (& Larry) Bates, Gilmer, Texas, Margaret Carol (& Doug) Eckard, Live Oak, Fla., and Juanita Catherine Laramie; one brother: James Frederick Stebbins, Livingston, Tenn.; the mother of his children: Pamla Arnold, Port Orange, Fla. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Albert C. Stebbins III and Elmer Carl Stebbins; and one sister: Jane Elizabeth Stebbins. John was proud to be the father of two successful daughters. His eldest, Carrie, has a degree in education and is a teacher here in Volusia County. His youngest, Christina, is a K-9 Search and Rescue trainer in Indianapolis, soon to have a degree in education. They both enjoyed hunting and fishing with their dad. John has two grandchildren that were the apple of his eye. The oldest, Michael, is a local high school student and technology guru, someday to be a successful businessman. Mollie, is a local elementary student, who adored her grandpa. They both enjoyed fishing and sightseeing in state parks with their grandpa. John was raised and lived in Port Orange on Rogers Avenue for most of his life. He was an avid fisherman on the Halifax River. Going floundering with a gig was his livelihood. He also loved to hunt. In his early years, he worked locally for Dunn Lumber with his brothers. Later in life, he moved to Tennessee to be near his sister, Roberta. There, he worked at the Cookeville Boat Dock. Working on the water was what made him happy. His viewing and funeral services were in Cookeville, Tenn. on February 2. There will be a Graveside Memorial Service and his cremains will be interred in the Port Orange Woodland Cemetery on June 15th at 1 p.m. After the memorial service, all family and friends are invited to a luncheon and celebration of life at the Beville Road Church of Christ, Daytona Beach. At his request, some of John's cremains will be spred on the Halifax River by his family. In lieu of flowers, his daughters ask that memorial contributions be made locally to The Chiles Academy- (the local high school for teen parents), 1250-A Reed Canal Road, Port Orange, FL 32129 (386)322-6102.

Joe and Sue Lent

June 10, 2008

We met John through his daughter Carie and he was always very nice to Sue and myself when he would visit across the street at the Encks house. When we heard that he was ill, we offered our prayers and continue to do so for Pam who misses him and Carie, Tim and the kids. God is with you now and he will take care you now.
