John Sullivan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2025.
John David Sullivan, known affectionately as Sully, passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 60 in Danvers, Massachusetts. Born on January 19, 1965, in Long Branch, New Jersey, John grew into a man of exceptional intellect and humor, whose presence was a gift to those around him.

Sully graduated from Manasquan High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Communications from Northeastern University. His academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for his diverse career. Known for his ingenuity and problem-solving skills, he was a skilled electrician and handyman, quickly becoming the "go-to" guy in his Boston neighborhood. Beyond his electrical work, John founded and operated Prince Postale, a unique shipping business that also offered infamous burritos and ran a popular lunch counter. He was also responsible for maintaining numerous properties throughout the North End and beyond.

Outside of his professional life, John was a man of many interests. An avid writer and reader, he delighted in solving crossword puzzles and staying informed as a self-proclaimed "news junky." His love for history and jazz was paralleled only by his passion for travel and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. He was also an excellent cook, known for his legendary kitchen and baking skills. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of hiking, camping, kayaking, and particularly, relaxing at the beach or swimming in the ocean.

He is survived by his sisters, Maureen and Kathleen; brothers, Joseph Jr. and Kevin; and his domestic partner, Gabriel Newman. His life was also enriched by his beloved cats, Chica and Damon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Clancy; father, Joseph; sister, Patricia; brother, Richard; and his cherished cat and best friend, Prince.

We will be celebrating John's legacy soon with an event filled with stories, laughter, and smiles. Details of this celebration will be shared in the near future, honoring a life well-lived and deeply cherished.

Gab and family. I worked with John for a short time in Peabody. One thing about John was his work ethic. He rode his pedal bike in rain snow and 100 degree weather. We had many interesting talks and he always knew what to say when I was down. John was very smart and could fix anything. One thing I remember was us talking about his cat Prince. He told me Prince´s story and his storytelling was so amazing that my heart was filled with love for Prince because that was how he told stories. God Bless. John is in my prayer and he will be remembered.

Sending my condolences and love to the Sullivan family and friends. I was one of the first customers at Prince Postale. Sully, was a delight to talk to, super knowledgeable about most anything at all!
Oddly enough, I was in a Postal business yesterday, that reminded me of Sully, selling photographs, maple syrup and candles, just to name a few. The guy that waited on me, could have passed for one of Sully´s brothers. Wild flashback!!!

John was the first person I met when I moved to Boston. He gave me a job while I went back to school. He is the reason I love home cooked meals. I will miss you John. I´m so glad we started talking more than just sending Happy Birthdays and Merry Christmas messages this last year. You were a wonderful friend and I´m truly going to miss you.
