I was saddened to learn of the passing of John this past May. I knew the family pretty well in the early 80s but lost touch with them. John and Virginia welcomed me into their home in Valencia, a time I'll always remember with fondness. My special condolences to Jonelle and Janis, I'd love to hear from you again and find out how you are doing.

Having John Swanson as a pastor during my childhood and young adult years was such a blessing. I learned so much from him and had the utmost respect for him. He taught me many godly principles and values for which I will always be grateful. Not only was he my pastor in Alexandria, but he performed our wedding ceremony, visited us at our home in Hawaii while he was on Oahu, and invited us to attend his new church in Anoka when he heard we were moving back to Minnesota. (We actually chose to live in Coon Rapids based on its proximity to his church.) He will always have a special place in my heart. My prayers are with his dear wife, Virginia, and their children as they grieve the loss of his presence here on earth. May they feel the peace and comfort of our Lord and Savior.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family in the passing of John. We became friends in 1974 while we both were pastoring in Alexandria. We were pleasingly surprised when we found you were almost next door to us in Anoka. We have wonderful memories of our times together. May the Holy Spirit comfort your hearts in your great loss.

John came from a godly family. His father Lawrence was a former hero. I followed John as youth pastor at Edgewater Baptist in S. Mpls. He was beloved and spoke highly of the church. Over the years, we've fellowshipped together, but I didn't know he moved to KS and regret I never got to say good bye.
I pray the Lord's comfort for Virginia and the family. We can rejoice he is in the presence of the Lord he loved, and we will see him again.

We were always encouraged to hear from John when we held a Compassion Sunday to find sponsors for the children around the world. His kinds words and stories of the early days of Compassion International will be a fond memory of John. Peace be with you. Steve Alice Yatckoske

John's enthusiasm for the Word of God, and his tremendous love for Virginia are two things I will always remember. We were blessed to have you as part of our lives over the past five years. We are praying for the Swanson family in these days and as we think of you in days to come.

We loved John as a brother-in-Christ and treasured his prayer support during the joys and challenges of our lives. We rejoice that he is home with the Savior he loves. We love you Virginia, our dear sister-in-Christ, and will pray for God's great faithfulness to carry you through the coming days and weeks and will continue to give you a song in your heart. Love Dennis and LuAnne
