John Tamillo Obituary

Published by Chicago Tribune on Apr. 15, 2018.
John "Johnny" "J.T." Tamillo In loving memory of John Tamillo 7/20/1955 – 4/6/2018 John was born in Chicago, Illinois to Dorothy and Walter Tamillo. He worked as a master carpenter and continued in this trade after moving to Phoenix, AZ., in 1978. In 1985 he started a new and proud career as a Phoenix firefighter until his retirement in 2011. John loved his family, friends and fellow firefighters. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking people out on his boat to ski or fish. He opened up his home countless times to family and friends and enjoyed entertaining them, hosting cookouts and holding parties. He had unlimited energy and loved good music, dancing and was an expert pool player. A true go-getter, John was also a very successful realtor for over 25 years and always found a way to seal the deal. He was excellent with construction and was busy in his spare time with renovating and restoring houses. Like his nickname, he was 'Johnny on the spot' for anyone who needed help repairing, remodeling or getting real estate advice. He leaves behind his caring wife Gia, and his beloved children, son Jared Vandenheuvel (Hanh) and daughter Danielle Tamillo. John was the devoted brother of Sharon (John) Valentini; Bob Tamillo (Bonnie); Denny (Leon) Brudnicki; Sandy (Bob) Sea; Cathy (Marty) Stieber; and Walt Tamillo, and was the fond and warmhearted Uncle Johnny to numerous nieces and nephews. He touched many of us with his fun loving spirit and will forever remind us to live our lives to the fullest. Johnny T was a member of L-37. He served the public with compassion and that reflected towards his fellow PFD family. I may have been his Captain but I will always consider him as a true friend. It has been an honor and blessing to have known him. RIP my friend. God's Speed.

Sending our deepest condolences to the Tamillo family and all who loved Johnny T!!!

John and my husband Mark were dear friends and Firefighters together. when I met Johnny T, I felt like I had known him forever. He had a way with making you feel welcome and of course made you laugh hysterically.

I know my husband is deeply saddened by his loss and is reflecting on his life full of Johnny T moments.

Rest in peace our dear friend.

John taught me how to hustle pool. We played in a lot of tournaments together and won. folks bet against us because I was a female, but John was a good teacher. Whenever I shoot pool I think of him. Blessings to the family and to John safe travels.
