John Tenta Obituary
TENTA _ John Anthony John was born in Surrey, BC on June 22, 1963. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2006, in Houston, Texas after a two year battle with cancer. John was well known for his career in wrestling which began in high school where he won many national and international competitions. For three years he attended Louisiana State University on a wrestling scholarship, studying to become a social worker. It was then that he was chosen to become the first Caucasian to try sumo wrestling in Japan and was very successful against his opponents. After leaving sumo in 1986, John achieved his childhood dream of becoming a professional wrestler in Japan and later in North America with WWF. In this career he was known as "Earthquake" and traveled all over the world. He is survived by his wife Josie, sons Jeff (Angela) and Johnny, daughter Joanna, parents John and Irene, sisters Lorna and Brenda, nephew Andrew, grandparents Clare and Mary Borys and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His funeral service was held June 12, 2006 in Houston, Texas. Thank you to all family and friends for your support and love at this difficult time. Email messages may be sent to [email protected]

I remember Jhon tenta a good guy in 1993 and 1994 . I remember Jhon tenta when he sqaushed jake Roberts snake. I also remember when earthquake sqaushed hulk hogan and sent him on a strectcher on the brother love show. Dennis winship Lynn Massachusetts

John was a truly remarkable athlete,I saw his ice skates one time they were huge, he skated at the cloverdale arena when he was younger.I'm sure he worked on the ice as staff to help out. He skated very well. He was an amazing prop (front row)for Lord Tweedsmuir Junior Secondary and the Surrey Beavers Rugby Club, he was known to lead the cheer before each game, 'aggie, aggie, aggie, etc.'
The sound of his booming voice and the meer size of the man struck fear into opponents beyond belief!!!
I had to play against him for 3 seasons of Rugby before joining his team at NSSS for grade 11 and 12.
It was an automatic try when John got the ball anywhere near the endzone.It took 4 guys usually to bring him down which was okay except for the fact this was a very agile young man so he would get right back up and run you down again!!!John could have very easily hurt alot of people on the field this simply was not his nature . In 5 years of playing with & against John I never seen him take a penalty for dirty play (high tackle etc.)He was a gentleman on & off the field. John took up wrestling in high school & was a very quick study his back ground in sports served him well he was mobile agile and was able to quickly pin his opponents.He was WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPION in grade 11& 12 I just can't imagine at 16 & 17 yrs. of age, how this made him feel. Quite an accomplishment would be an understatement! A Wrestling scholarship to LSU came after that and a spot on the Football team, needless to say I think John was now the big man on campus. From all of this one of greatest moments of my time with John was watching him in the headline match at Pacific Colosseum vs Hulk Hogan in front of (as you can imagine 16,000 screaming fans).
I got to watch him on tv as well, just knowing, that my friend truly had lived his dream of wrestling on the world wide stage.
John if you are reading this I miss you! I love ya and we will meet again. Thanks for the memories.
