John Tevenan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 23, 2008.
LEESBURG, Fla. — John Martin Tevenan, 76, passed away in Leesburg, on Nov. 12, 2008, after a long period of declining health.

Born on Oct. 6, 1932, in Meelick, County Galway, Ireland, Jack came to America as a young child and was raised and educated in Hyde Park, Mass. He moved to Cape Cod in 1954; living there until five years ago when he retired to "The Plantation" in Leesburg.

Jack is survived by his loving wife and amazing caretaker, Elizabeth (Griswold) Tevenan; daughter, Linda Manning and husband Kevin of Huntersville, N.C.; brother, Francis Tevenan and wife Geraldine; and sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Rose Tevenan. Jack also leaves Elizabeth's daughters, Sheryl McMahon, Pamela Rodriguez and Kathleen Driscoll and their families, all of Cape Cod; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack is predeceased by his beloved parents, Patrick and Margaret Tevenan; brother, Joseph; niece, Patricia; and nephew, Patrick.

Jack was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor, keen intelligence and a sharp eye for the absurd. He loved his family, his country and his sports. Becoming an American citizen in 1965 was one of his proudest moments, as was the Red Sox winning the World Series.

So the next time the Sox get a home run or the Patriots score a touchdown, think of Jack and maybe raise a toast, he'd like that.

A funeral and burial service was held for Jack in Leesburg on Nov. 15.

Donations may be made in Jack's memory to Cornerstone Hospice, c/o Pastoral Department, 2445 Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778 or to a charity of one's choice.
