I know John will be missed by anyone who knew him because he was a truly great guy and I was lucky he married my aunt so I could know him.

When I first started with Allegheny Ludlum in December of 1966 John was my immediate supervisor>I didn't pick him and he didn't pick me, I was the lucky one. John knew I was dated a young woman in Philadelphia and travelled to her after work on Friday. John would look at his watch at 3Pm on Friday and ask whether I was planning to travel to Philly. I said yes and he said "why don't you leave now; I'll see you on Monday. We reconnected when John was transferred to eastern Pa where I had already been reassigned and he again reestablished a poker club; the poker playing was secondary to the joy of the companionship. I remember one had in particular. It was John and I at the end; betting and raising each other; I felt poorly for John since I had a full house. After the better was over I confidentially declared "full boat Aces over Eights". John declared TWO Pair "Queens over Queens"(four of a kind) I never felt better about losing a poker hand. Even the best people die, but only the best will live within us as we travel our journey; thanks for being a part of who I am today John. Tom Phillip

John was a big part of my young life at Ken Hi and Carnegie Tech. John was a brilliant student, good athlete and good friend. I am certain that he was a wonderful father to his three children. I will always recall John translating Latin stories in the Ken Hi library and shooting that sweet jump shot. I wish we could have been closer as we grew in age.
