Dear Diane and Family
I was very saddened to hear of Jack's death. I knew him for about 80 years as we were boyhood best friends. He certainly had a life and career to be envied and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Dear Valerie and family,
We were sad to hear the news about your Dad. I will never forget the night a few of us " crashed" the awesome Christmas Party! We were all invited in and enjoyed the great company ...along with food and drinks. Those were great times never to forget.

Jack was an extraordinary person in all ways: Compassionate, calm, kind, smart, generous, thoughtful, witty and above all, a wonderful father to his children and a loving husband.

In many ways, Jack was a surrogate father to me; I spent countless hours at the Vance's home and have warm memories of even the most mundane moments. In most of them, good-natured Jack was chuckling.

Jack was one of those incredible people whom you meet and who makes an indelible impression on you. He made you want to emulate his best qualities.

All of us who had the good fortune to know him- and surely his children and Diane who loved him beyond words- miss this wonderful man who graced this world for 86 years.

For a person this special, any time on earth was far too short.

I will miss him. Rest in peace, Jack.

Diane and Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of Dr. Vance's passing. After knowing him for over 30 years, I can say that he truly is one of the kindest, most gentle people I have ever met. It was my honor and pleasure to know him. Please find comfort in your memories.

Growing up on Kim Circle, your dad was one of the fathers on the street I wasn't afraid of. While the other dads would stay away from the kids and barely utter a hello, Dr. Vance was right in the heart of the merriment. I remember hearing his happy voice at my parents' New Years Eve parties. Our childhood trips to the Vance cottage were always a fun adventure. "Who wants to go on the Sunfish?" Your dad was warm and welcoming with an attitude of "the more the merrier." He came over to the house when I was so sick with pnuemonia (housecalls!) and remained my dr until I was a young adult. Great man who raised a fantastic family, that I am proud to count among my dearest friends. May his joy and levity stay in your hearts forever.

Dear Kathy, Linda, John, Paul, Val and Jeff I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. When I heard of the news, it immediately brought me back to Kim Circle and the innocence of the 60's and 70's. So many things crossed my mind…block parties, the V8 parked along side of the house, curling brooms, skates, Canadian whiskey, etc… Your Dad lived life to the fullest. Although you guys were gone all summer I could always keep tabs on you by reading about the latest regatta your Dad won with the V8…he dominated the Highlander Class. Your Dad indirectly influenced me to learn how to sail and race and I eventually owned a one-design boat myself. My father had the opportunity to know your father on a personal and professional level and I know he really thought the world of your Dad. I hope ya'll are all doing well!! It is time to celebrate his life and the good times you spent together! I will have a CC in honor of your Dad!!

I have many warm memories of Dr Vance and his family, from summer sailing at the BYC to his kind care of my mother in her final days. He was a constant friend to my late father, Dr Frank Bolgan and will be missed by more people than he would ever imagine.
Sincere condolences,

I was very saddened to hear of Dr. Vance's passing. He was a wonderful doctor and a good friend who was always there when you needed him. They do not make doctors like him anymore. He was also a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
