John Henry Vaught BRISTOL, Va. John Henry Vaught, 84, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and the son of the late William E. and Margaret Leonard Vaught. Also, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert L. Vaught and Carl F. Vaught; and two sisters, Ida V. Leonard and Ann V. Stewart. He was a retired rural route carrier with Bristol Virginia Post Office and loved his farming operations. U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975, Hackler-Wood American Legion Post 145, National Rural Carriers Association and the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his wife, Elinor Crumley Vaught; two daughters, Ellen Vaught Anderson and husband, Ike and Lora Vaught Cross and husband, Eric, all of Bristol Virginia; one sister, Nina V. Wilson of Abingdon, Va.; four grandchildren, Joshua Anderson, Johnna Humphrey and husband, James, Jake Cross and Jordan Cross; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Andy Abelseth and wife, Helen, Allen Leonard and wife, Linda; and special cat, Allie. The family will receive friends from 7 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Akard Funeral Home. A private service will be conducted at Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Claude Stewart, nephew, officiating, with military rites conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. Those who wish may send memorials to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Ellen, so sorry to hear about you dad. He was a good man. I remember when he would dress up as Santa on Christmas Eve and show up at my grandparents house for the kids!!!I always knew it was him by his smile. Praying that God will give you & your family the comfort & peace you need. May He put his loving arms around you.
