My Memories of John are many but my first one is that of watching him relentlessly swim lengths of the pool doing the butterfly stroke. I was age 10 or 11 at that time, making it the Summer of 1965 or '66. Immediately, I wanted to learn that stroke and tried to imitate John every time I was at the pool in Zelie. ... It took me several summers to learn it well enough to swim the stroke in meets, but I NEVER
did it as well nor as beautifully as John!
