John Wadsworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 12, 2008.
DELHI _ John Taylor "Jack" Wadsworth, 68, of Delhi, passed away Saturday morning, Feb 9, 2008, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, following complications of lung cancer.
The son of the late Robert L. and Elma Taylor Wadsworth, he was born Feb. 4, 1940, in New York City. He received his primary and secondary education at Ethical Culture Fieldston School; his formal education at New York University (mathematics), doing graduate studies at Columbia University (linguistics); served two years in the Army and married Rose Cupaiuolo, Nov. 27, 1968.
Before his retirement, Jack had been an executive with Bankers Trust Company/Deutsche Bank in New York, for 35 years. A true Renaissance Man, he held positions there, first in computer programming, then in finance and, finally, in corporate taxation, ultimately becoming Managing Director and head of the Bank's Tax Department. During his many years at Bankers Trust, he was known for his easy wit, unpretentious manner, business savvy, dedication, and the "vault" of information _ on every topic under the sun _ that was his mind. He was self-taught in these fields.
Jack also possessed a flair for foreign languages, and communicated well with people during his international travels.
Maintaining a weekend home in Delhi over 20 years, taking up permanent residence following retirement in 2001, Jack's devotion to his passions of music, woodworking, gardening, literature, and the wider worlds of the arts and sciences brought him and those around him much enjoyment and enlightenment, and gave him incredible value as a member of many Delhi area non-profit organizations. He served as president of the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble, Friends of Music, and Delaware County Historical Association, as well as on the board of directors of Honest Brook Musical Festival and Delhi Senior Housing, and the Meredith Dairy Fest committee.
Surviving are his wife, Rose C. Wadsworth; was predeceased by a foster-brother, Theodor Bicos, who is survived by his wife, Maria, and family of Utah; three nieces-in-law and other relatives, as well as numerous friends who will greatly miss him.
Memorial services will be at a later date in the spring.
Contributions in Jack's memory to Little Delaware Youth Ensemble, P.O. Box 206, Oneonta, NY 13820, will be appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Rose,

It was a great shock to receive your note about Jack's untimely passing. Winnie, Juliana, Andrew and I are immensely saddened to recieve the news.

Jack was the fondest part of the memory of my Bankers trust days. He was of towering statue in warmth, intellect and phisique. He took a new, hesitant, culturally out of his water, new colleague under his wing.

Not being able to visit with Jack regularly was the biggest disadvantage of my moving out to San Francisco. But, everythime I visited New York, I would make a point to see him at his Bankers Trust office. We would pick up without missing a beat!

The untimely departure of Jack has left a big hole in my heart. I shall always miss him!

Rose, please let me know if we can be of help.

Ken

Uncle Jack was a special person to so many on so many levels. He always left you with a calm that so few can replicate. He touched so many lives and I feel privalged to have been his niece. My thoughts go our to Aunt Rose for being the strong woman that was always behind him. He knew how strong you are.

Dear Rosi:

I am very saddened by your beloved Jack's passing. I will remember him as an intellectual and kind person, ready to talk politics, finances, music and travel all before going to work in the morning, and at your wonderful gatherings.

Love, Abby

Jack was such an asset on our Dairyfest committee, and was so much fun to work with as well. We will miss his humor and great ideas. God bless you.

Rose,
As your 12th floor neighbors in
Manhattan, we remember Jack for his warmth and wit as well as his skilled service as a bosrd member for Schwab House. We often recall Jack holding forth in a rocking chair at our then annual New Year's Day parties that, alas, we no longer hold. Our thoughts are with you and please, if you are ever in the city, let us know.

Rose,
We have such wonderful memories of our fun and learning with you and John during his years on the American Bankers Association's Tax Committee. From his interest in tax (including Sub S, which he simply enjoyed for the pleasure of learning it) to hearing about making ketchup on your farm, he always had sparkle. We will miss him, but that sparkle with stay with us. Our thoughts are with you.

Rose,

I was deeply saddened to hear first of John's illness and then of his passing. You know far better than any of us what a wonderful man he was but I could never thank him enough for the intellectual gifts he gave me; a love of the Brandenberg concertos and chamber music along with a passion for the works of Patrick O'Brian, Jane Austin and Dorthy Sayers. Plus just chatting with John about any subject. I will miss him.

Dear Rose, Having met you through Allison, I know how generous was your husband. He always left his New York newspapers or periodicals when he visited for the residents to read. Sincerest sympathy.
