Obituary of John Wagner, III.

John Wagner was born in Manhattan, New York on May 27, 1924, the son of Marjorie and John Wagner of Philadelphia. He died on June 28, 2022 at the age of 98. John served during World War II in the army as a radar technician in the West Indies. In 1950, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in chemical engineering and later obtained his professional engineering license. Following graduation, he began working for Keystone Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Atlantic Refining Co., as a member of their corrosion control group. In 1953, he joined A.V. Smith Engineering Co., a small corrosion consulting firm. In 1988, the company became part of Corrpro Companies Inc. where he was assigned the job of Chief Engineer. After retiring in 1993, John continued working as a consultant to Corrpro until 2002. During his career, John presented many technical papers at industry meetings and lectured at West Virginia University and at Purdue University. In 2012, John was awarded the prestigious Colonel George C. Cox award "For Outstanding Contributions to Underground Corrosion Engineering." In 1966, John and Evelyn Schradiek were married. They were happily married 52 years until Evelyn's death. John served for many years on the Board of Trustees of the Wagner Free Institute of Science in Philadelphia. John and his late wife, Evelyn, lived at Springton Lake Village, Media, Pennsylvania, for 20 years where John was actively involved with the community's Building Committee. He is survived by his nephew John Wagner and his wife Dorisann, and their son Samuel Tobias, from Fairfield, Maine.
